Easter
I used to get bitter.
It was never good enough. There was always something. Shows were too sparsely attended, the travel was too arduous, the pay was too little, and the list went on and on and on. My superpower was to complain.
Here’s the funny thing. As time progressed, the shows became more well attended, the travel became more tolerable, and the pay became more equitable, yet I was just as, if not more, miserable.
They say the devil will come to you as everything you’ve ever wished for.
It was Easter Sunday, and I was about to step out of a show in Ottawa at a local brewery. A lady came up to me as I was putting on my jacket. She told me that having us there, was such a pleasure. She said she has gone to many big concerts, but it was smaller shows like this, that were most memorable to her.
“I told at least 50 people to come to this show, Ed,” she said. “They said they can’t because it’s Easter. I told them forget your families, you only get to see Ed now.”
She literally told people in my nation’s capital to abandon the lord to spend an evening with us. We had a good laugh as I said that to her.
They say the devil will come to you as everything you’ve ever wished for, and on the day of the resurrection, I finally let it all go.
